Mixed Doubles Champions!

Congratulation to JJ and Jane who won our annual 1-day Mixed Doubles Club Annual Tournament on Sunday 2 July. They played Beth and Paul in the final: Jane & JJ, who became known as JJJ, won 6-2, 7-5. The day was a great success with 12 players and more than 30 adults and children around for the BBQ - enjoying themselves.

Thanks to everyone who played, supported or helped with the arrangements on the day, especially to Beth, our Tournament Organiser and Alison who organised the food and catered spectacularly with help from her family.

How the play worked out ....

Couples all played 7 rounds of 5 games in a round-robin event in the morning, producing outright winners for the men and ladies, but a tie for 2nd place in the men's competition. The 3rd and 4th placed ladies joined the tied men, spinning for partners, and a tie-break to 7 was played to decide who would go through to the final, after lunch.

We greatly appreciate the support of Tesco: the tournament, followed by a pre-Wimbledon barbecue, was generously supported by Tesco (Amersham), who donated the prizes and some other provisions, as part of their efforts to encourage people to get active in the community and foster community spirit. BJ Tailor from Tesco, their Community Champion, attended and presented the cup to the winners and enjoyed meeting with members and sharing experiences of all the good things going on locally.
